Workshop A Series (Choose 1)

  • Fifth Floor Training Room

    Collaboration is the cornerstone of good community work. While the benefits are clear, our personal stance about whether we “have to” or “want to” participate is critical to successful collaboration. Equally important is understanding how to engage effectively in collaborative work with colleagues in a way that is nourishing and enhances connectivity and genuine partnerships. In this workshop, participants will explore practical tools, strategies and activities for infusing nourishing practices that can lead to more sustainable and mutually beneficial collaborative initiatives and efforts.

    Niva Flor, Chief Impact & Strategy Officer, Sacramento Region Community Foundation

    Anthony Taula Liera, Director of Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships, Sacramento Region Community Foundation

  • Fourth Floor Training Room

    This session will help organizations visualize the possibility of building a work and learning environment focused on equity, cultural responsiveness, social-emotionally grounded, and anti-racism, by curating safe, brave space for important conversations that will shift the narrative to inclusive and resource rich. Recognizing up to this moment in history, America's collective identity has not met the needs of the most marginalized, the fight for equity can no longer be ignored, othered, erased, silenced, and/or performed. A commitment to the development of shared language and values around equity are essential to reimagining a future where the next generation won't need to deal with or heal from racialized trauma in the workplace. An all-hands on deck approach, leverages the power of African Proverb "many hands making for light work." A synchronized effort that rings loud of resilience and anti-racism. This presentation will use the case study of the Robla School Distirct's Resilience Project.

    Participants should:

    • walk away with an understanding of how city land development practices have historically harmed underserved communities, and how this novel approach challenges them;

    • understand why this can be a model for creating more equitable processes and outcomes that serve communities effectively and efficiently; and

    • be thinking about how and with whom they can apply cross-sector collaborative practices within their own spaces and leadership roles.

    Fundraising brings challenges, both for individual BIPOC fundraisers and for their organizations. These challenges mirror larger issues:

    1. power imbalances with funders and philanthropy; 2. growing wealth disparities; and, the 3, lack of investment in BIPOC communities.

    BIPOC fundraisers experience these dynamics resulting in varying emotions and perceptions. Join seasoned fundraising professionals that will equip and empower you as BIPOC fundraisers. The workshop aligns participants' personal and organizational fundraising strategies towards equity and will cover: positive mindsets in fundraising; centering diversity, equity, and inclusion; philanthropic education, allyship, and transformational partners
